Other than fic and the occasional House MD-related ramble, this journal is for friends only.

If you'd like to be added, please leave a short note about yourself and what we have in common.

Thank you.

Just look at the beauty beneath your feet...

Chalk and Petals on a City Sidewalk

  • I took the above picture while out on a walk the other day. One of the things I like about photography is that it encourages me to look more closely at the world around me.

  • Saw Paranormal Activity over the weekend... Not bad, but it certainly didn't live up to all the hype. There's a lot of tension that doesn't really lead anywhere, and the ending was too abrupt. I recommend waiting for the rental.

  • I'm probably crazy for doing this, but the serial killer book I was working on a year ago is back on. My writing partner and I worked out a new deal, so everyone wish me luck. If past experience is any indicator, I'm going to need it.

  • I'd like to thank everyone who's supported my recapping efforts for Spoiler TV over the last few weeks. You really have no idea how much I appreciate it. This week's recap is finally up, if you'd like to stop by. (I know there's been some question about how to leave comments... please just use this link, and thank you.)

  • Lastly, I finally caved and got a Twitter account. I'm silent_snark there, too, if you'd like to follow me.

It's soon going to be Halloween, and the tricksters of PPTH are going to need costumes. Please share your ideas to dress up the various characters of House. Bonus points are awarded for links/pictures of your suggestions.

In honor of the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, I submit these ideas...

Title: Memory
Rating: R, I guess
Word Count: 75 words, not including the title
Pairing: House/Cuddy
Spoiler Warning: none, just some speculation
Disclaimer: I don’t own these characters. I’m just taking them out for a little spin.
A/N: This is an experiment of sorts, intended to convey a train of thought. All formatting and punctuation oddities are intentional. Comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.

Memory

The way she sometimes looks at him—

head tilted back, lips slightly parted, breasts like the quiver of a whispered voice urging him on—

rising and falling, rising and falling, rising and—

It always takes him back to that night.

A matter of only hours, buried (but not quite) in the pain and betrayal and rage of everything that followed. But still…

He’s seen that look before.

Sooner or later, he’s going to remind her.

House of Leaves

(This morning, Holliday Park)

Have anyone read House of Leaves? I was in an acquisitive mood and picked it up today on impulse. With all the offset type, footnotes, etc., it appears suitably intriguing and trippy. Plus, maybe it's just fall in the air, but I'm in the mood for a good scary story. If anyone has any comments about this novel or other reading recommendations for the extended Halloween season, I'd love to hear them.

oooh... pretty lights

(Taken last weekend, while on a quick out-of-town trip to Chicago.)

I haven't had much time to post the last few days, so I want to say a belated welcome to the new people on my friends list... I hope not to bore you too badly.  :)

But speaking of things that (hopefully) aren't boring... what does everyone think about that Twitter spoiler posted over on house_cuddy?

The Path

I had a pretty shitty weekend and didn't get the chance to take any new photos, so here's one from about two weeks ago, taken on a hiking trip to one of our state parks.

Also, I saw District 9 and A Perfect Getaway over the weekend... District 9 wasn't at all what I expected, but it wasn't bad. It kind of reminded me of Enemy Mine on steroids CGI. A Perfect Getaway was okay; it'll make a decent rental.

And getting back to my gratitude journal...

1. I'm grateful my husband called me from work today just to talk, because that means he must not be too upset with me.
2. That I was successfully able to bathe both dogs this morning
3. For being invited out to dinner
4. For being able to resist the siren's call of caffeine all day long
5. To my sister, for marrying a mechanic

I'm sorry to have been so quiet this week, but I come to you with two bits of news...

1.) "Heart-Shaped Box" has been nominated for a House Fan Award! There's some pretty stiff competition so I don't expect to win, but it's nice to know that someone liked the story well enough to nominate it. Voting begins tomorrow, so if you have a minute, please vote for one of the authors in my category (but preferably for me).  ;)

2.) When the new season of "House" begins, I'll be doing recaps for SpoilerTV. They've enlisted a team, and I think they're kind of vetting everyone to see who works out the best. More details (and opportunities to get myself into trouble for offending someone) to follow in September.

Title: Enabling
Rating: PG-13.
Word Count: Double Drabble. 100 x 2.
Pairing: OT3, cause that’s the way (uh-huh, uh-huh) we like it.
Spoiler Warning: post-“Both Sides Now”
Disclaimer: No fictional characters were harmed in the writing of this little fic. They were merely gently used then returned to their rightful owners.
A/N: This is for [info]drnihilism, who waited patiently for months until I was sufficiently inspired to live up to my end of the deal. I hope it’s worth the build-up.

Enable (v): To supply with means, knowledge or opportunity; to make happen. )

I know most of my flist can teach me a thing or twelve about LJ, but it's lately come to my attention that some of you are relatively new to LiveJournal and might not know how to use all its features. So, I thought I'd pass along some of the knowledge others have been kind enough to teach me. Good Karma and all that. Today, I'm explaining how to insert an image using LJ's Rich Text mode. If you'd like a closer look at any of my amateurish visual aids, just click on the image in question for a larger version.

I don't know if anyone can stand hearing yet more speculation concerning the recently released spoilers, but just in case, I wrote a new theory up for you...

Hidden for the few, the proud, the non-spoiled. )

Okay, that's it. Does my theory make sense to you, or should I be hiding my user icon in shame? It took forever to organize my scattered, paranoid thoughts into a semi-intelligible ramble; please reply and let me know how I did.

Rather than rant all over again, I just copied my original post from house_spoilers.

This used to be a great comm before all the shipping bullshit.
I love House/Cuddy. I love House/Wilson. Why do I have to read through 200 posts of any of these characters getting trashed?
Reducing anyone down to a single body part is just offensive, people. It's not cute, and it certainly doesn't make you seem more intelligent. It just shows that you're bitter and sad.

A few things have been bothering me lately, and I decided to take a minute to get them off my chest. Feel free to comment, or let me know what's pissing you off these days. Ranting loves company.

Hormones... They need to stop fucking with me. I'm a nice person... really, I am.

Racists... They need to stick to their own secret, hooded enclaves and stop hanging out on the Internet, posting with glee every time a crime is committed against a victim of color. They can take their racially-motivated schadenfreude and stick it up their pale white asses. Or better yet, let me do it for them.

Homophobes... Stop holding your rallies on public sidewalks if you don't want to engage the public in conversation. This is the city where I live, work, volunteer and pay taxes... ergo I am the public. Deal with it.

To the creepy asshole who felt me up while you were supposed to be spotting me at the gym last week... I still regret the fact that I didn't punch you in the face.

I'm posting this b/c I came across it tonight and [info]london_fan asked for something to cheer her up.  Hope this does the trick!

Edit: Once again, LJ is being a bitch. This time, it won't embed the video. So you'll have to go here to watch it, instead. It's definitely worth the click.
